Basically in a nut-shell - we were rubbish.
It's hard to keep finding the positive words week in week out when defeats keep occuring so I'm not going to pretend we were anything other than below average. Southgate aren't a great side but are and were better than us on this miserable morning.
Their burly centre forward who smacked AK was still banned so there was no risk of a repeat, but we nearly had our own inter-team moment when Nipper & Sully got a bit 'heated.'....
We just didn't really get going but it was only 2-0 at half time - the second of which was a penalty. I decided to do a Joe Hart and had a bit of a scream at their Skipper as he stepped up to take it: "You won't beat me!" I cried.
He promptly swept it to my left as I hopped right and deserved the smirk as he turned to celebrate.
I should have done better with their third - not a great shot down to my right that I think I'd usually get to and their fourth was a tragedy for me as I was beaten along the floor at my near post. The ball leaped over my foot as I lazily defended my goal. Pissed off doesn't cover it.
Sure, there were a couple of standard blocks - but nothing to write home about - or on this blog about!
We even missed our own penalty! Sully decided he was the man for the job but I think he'll be the first to agree, it wasn't a great effort! Maybe Sully was still getting over nearly coming to blows with Nipper! Both had 'had words' in the first half and I think it summed up our whole morning seeing them having a bit of a go at each other. It's funny now, but we could probably have done without it.
Another pal of mine, Mim, was involved as we'd come up up short of players for the second game against Winchmore Hill and also for this game. Mim is funny little Italian chap who is a neighbour of my best mate, Damien, and I've known him for a few years now. He played in the team I managed over the last couple of seasons and is essentially a striker but will literally play anywhere he is asked to, and do a solid job. It was great to get him along to play for Latymer and it's good to know we can call on him if needed.
I'm going to leave it there because I'm playing catch-up - I just wanted to log the game for timeline purposes.
Surely I wasn't going to go the whole season without at least one win under my belt?!!
